Hello, this is my first time I discover this blog. I am on the igourmet site on a regular basis, to see what’s on sale, but I never saw the link to this blog.

OK, and now I am looking through the postings, and I guess I am liking it enough to come back.

But still, one thing is so annoying: why do Americans have to say all things double?

    Porcini mushrooms?
    Ciabatta bread?

If you are so ignorant that you don’t know that Porcini are mushrooms and the Ciabatta is a bread, then you shouldn’t be writing about food anyway.

I am not implying that you are ignorant, I am reading you are a chef, so I assume you have learned your business. But why is that all the time things are mentioned double? I know the majority of Americans is not really well educated, but are they really THAT dumb? Oh wow…

I also come across “Pennette Pasta” once in a while, or even better: Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese! I want to scream!!

4 years ago you should have seen the igourmet site. A complete mess. They introduced german cheeses and didn’t even get the brand names right, let alone the rest.

A cheese was introduced as being from the brand “Kasseri”! The german term Kaeserei means cheese manufactory, literally “cheesery” (compare to bakery). And the brand name was actually “Champignon”.
The whole name was Kaeserei Champignon, thus meaning cheesery Champignon. And it was being offered as a cheese of the brand Kasseri. I kid you not!!

By now the site is greatly improved, maybe they got someone from outside who knows at least 2 foreign languages. Or so.

But still, the double naming continues. See above: porcini mushrooms and ciabatta bread.

Why not go all the way and say celery raw vegetable, or bacon meat, or sage herbs?
Oh, and don’t forget the salt spice!!!!!

How can you expect to be taken seriously by non-Americans who happen to live in your country?
You want our money, don’t you?
We are good enough to order.

A tipp to make it even more annoying:

offer ONE pannini or TWO panninis!!!

I am not making this up, I have seen ads with exactly this wording!

The recipe looks interesting, I will make a variation (with Bacos), as soon as I am going to find affordable porcini and chestnuts.

Wow, you have a nerve to talk about “annoying” - that might be the most annoying post I’ve ever read - there goes two minutes I’ll never get back. What a nerve to dismiss Americans are dumb, or as you so eloquently phrased it “I know the majority of Americans is not really well educated” - your “Non-American” education has really paid dividends…..I rarely repond to blogs, but yours got me riled up.
As an English woman who has enjoyed the hospitality of America for over a decade, and igourmet for nearly as long, I find your attitude condescending at best, offensive at worst. I think this site has always done a great job of introducing new foods in an approachable and affordable way, especially for those of us who live far from major cities. For many people who are not well versed in culinary terms, this site, along with Food Network, has provided an easy introduction to a new world of food. If you and other “non-Americans” can’t take them or anyone else seriously because they go to great lengths to be clear about the product, then shame on you. Here’s a “tipp” to make your next post even more annoying - perhaps you could litter it with even more spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, whilst simultaneously dismissing the intelligence of the citizens of the country which was gracious enough to allow you to live here! There, rant over…..
